The Oakhanger Project is a Christian Ministry based in South Cheshire, England. It was founded in 1974, in the small village called Oakhanger, near Crewe. Since then, the Project has developed, and participants are not just confined to this part of England. There are also links with similiar community groups across the North West and the UK, and further afield - including Western Canada and Grand Bahamas.
The Project offers a wide range of Activity and Adventure Courses and Tours, to cater for the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs for people of all ages and backgrounds. Participants are encouraged to work and learn together, to enable decisions to be faced, to overcome problems, to learn and discover about themselves. Solutions cannot be guaranteed, but everyone involved with the Courses and Tours are willing to work with you, to allow you every chance to discover your potential answers, to develop yourself in a positive and meaningful way.
The Courses are varied, either lasting half a day, all day, or weekends - offering active learning events for families or individuals. The activities can include kayaking, surfing, climbing, walking, adventure games and camping skills. Training and support is offered throughout, and safety and welfare are of paramount concern.
The Tours include longer kayaking and camping trips, lasting about 7 to 14 days. We have already been to the Isles of Scilly this year, visiting the some of the main islands from St Mary's by using sea kayaks, or by local ferrys. Despite the strong breezes during the week, we were able to offer kayaking trips to Samsom, Bryher and Tresco, and ferry and walking trips were made to St Martins and St Agnes. Our trip to Tresco included a worthwhile visit to the famous sub tropical gardens at Tresco Abbey.
Later this year, a trip to Grand Bahama is arranged. The trip includes a 6 to 7 day kayaking trip, to paddle from island to island in 2 person kayaks. Many of the islands are uninhabited, and therefore the true experience of the wilderness and nature of the Carribean can be experienced.
